According to a social media account associated with Israel’s national intelligence agency, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reportedly spends his entire day sleeping and consuming drugs, even as a significant portion of the country struggles with inadequate access to clean water and electricity.
On Friday, the Mossad’s Farsi language account posted on X, questioning, “How can a leader lead when they sleep half the day and spend the other half high on substances?” The post also highlighted, “Water, electricity, life!”
On July 9, the same account stated, “Consuming drugs and conversing with spirits are not desirable traits for someone leading a country.”
The content originated from a newly established X account, created last month with a premium subscription, which purports to be the official Mossad spokesperson in Farsi, Iran’s official language; however, the affiliation of this account has not been officially verified.
Over the past month, the account has shared various posts regarding Khamenei’s health and the state of the country, highlighting its shortages of clean water, electricity, and education.
The account’s biography advises, “To everyone contacting us through private messages, for your own security, please ensure you are using a VPN.”
One post from the account addressed the identification of the newly appointed, yet officially unnamed, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which serves as the command center for the Iranian Armed Forces.
Following a report from Tasnim News Agency, Iran’s semi-official news outlet connected to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which stated Iran would not disclose the commander’s identity for his safety, the account linked to Mossad claimed to already know the name and encouraged Iranians to submit their predictions.
The account then replied to the “lucky winner” who correctly identified the name Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi, instructing them to “contact us privately to receive your prize.”
While the account’s satirical remarks and provocative statements deviate from Mossad’s typical public communication style, two intelligence experts informed JFeed, an Israeli news outlet, that this unconventional account linked to Mossad appears to be legitimate.
Beny Sabti, an Iran expert at Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies and a former IDF Persian-language officer, informed the outlet that “Some of the information it has shared could only have come from Mossad.”
Allegations of Khamenei’s drug use are not new; an Iranian academic stated in 2022 that the Iranian Supreme Leader frequently consumes drugs.
At the time, Nour Mohamed Omara claimed on Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated TV that “Many viewers do not know this, but Khamenei himself uses drugs.”
The academic further added, “He has a special village in Balochistan, where the drugs used by the leader are produced.” They elaborated, “This village is run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and no one is allowed in.”
Following the 1979 Iranian Revolution, the Ayatollah publicly denounced drug use as “un-Islamic,” with drug-related offenses potentially incurring penalties up to and including death.
