Pakistan’s missile program could threaten the US, warns Gabbard

(SeaPRwire) –   American cities could fall within the reach of Islamabad’s advancing missile program, according to the intelligence chief

According to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Pakistan’s advancing missile program represents a possible danger to the United States.

She included the South Asian nation alongside Russia and other countries in the 2026 Annual Threat Assessment Report.

“Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, and Pakistan have been researching and developing an array of novel, advanced, or traditional missile delivery systems with nuclear and conventional payloads, that put our homeland within range,” Gabbard informed the US Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday. “Pakistan’s long-range ballistic missile development potentially could include ICBMs with the range capable of striking the homeland.”

Gabbard informed the committee that she anticipates the collective missile threats to the US will grow from over 3,000 to more than 16,000 by the year 2035.

Washington-based scholar Shuja Nawaz stated to Dawn News that this “continues the analysis of the Biden administration that placed sanctions on Pakistani entities and tried to curb acquisition of new technologies.”

Relations between Washington and Islamabad have experienced fluctuations over recent decades. During the Cold War, Pakistan was an ally of the US and participated in several initiatives led by Washington, such as the Southeast Asian Treaty Organization (SEATO) and the Central Treaty Organization (CENTO).

The United States designated Pakistan a major non-NATO ally in 2004, despite later accusing Islamabad of backing the Afghan Taliban and working against US interests in the war-torn nation until 2021.

Earlier this year, Islamabad became a member of US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, a body intended to supervise the postwar rebuilding of Gaza.

The South Asian nation maintains a close relationship with China, having joined President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road initiative. It is also a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
