Police confirm multiple deaths in Bangkok market shooting

Police reported that multiple individuals were shot and killed at a market in Bangkok on Monday afternoon.

An official Facebook post confirmed at least six fatalities, including the assailant who took their own life.

Images showed police at the scene of the Or Tor Kor market in Bangkok, an establishment known for selling agricultural produce and local food.

According to the Erawan Emergency Medical Center, which oversees Bangkok hospitals, the victims comprised four security guards and one woman.

Monday’s violent incident transpired against a backdrop of five days of intense conflict between Thailand and its neighbor, Cambodia.

Leaders from both sides convened in Malaysia on Monday in an urgent endeavor to de-escalate the fighting.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that State Department officials were present in Malaysia to aid the peace discussions.

“Both President Trump and I remain in contact with our respective counterparts for each country and are monitoring the situation very closely,” Rubio declared in a statement. “We desire this conflict to conclude as swiftly as possible.”
