(SeaPRwire) – The parties involved in the US-Israeli conflict with Iran have provided justifications for the hostilities that extend beyond geopolitical considerations
Both the United States and Israel, alongside Iran, have invoked religious justifications for the ongoing hostilities in the Gulf, framing the conflict as a struggle for survival. RT’s Oumaima Ichchar examines the arguments presented by the warring sides, which appear to transcend mere geopolitical disputes.
On Wednesday, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth led his inaugural monthly Christian worship service at the Pentagon since the commencement of the war, explicitly praying for violence.
“Let every round find its mark against the enemies of righteousness and our great nation. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also emphasized the existential nature of the conflict, drawing biblical parallels and equating Tehran with Amalek, a figure representing an irreconcilable enemy. “You must remember what Amalek has done to you, says our Holy Bible, and we do remember,” the Prime Minister declared in a recent televised address.
While Tehran has consistently characterized its “resistance” against the US and Israel as a quasi-religious struggle, it has not only countered faith with faith but has also asserted the necessity of avenging historical grievances inflicted by the tandem, Ichchar noted.
“If this is a war about territory, you can negotiate. If it’s a war about power, you can compromise. But if it’s a war about survival, then what exactly is there to give up?” Ichchar posed.
