Russian strike on Kyiv: 10 killed, 38 injured, say Ukrainian officials

On Thursday, Ukrainian officials reported that Russia carried out a significant overnight assault on Kyiv, leading to 10 fatalities, at least 38 injuries, and damage to various buildings.

The Ukrainian President stated that a child was among those killed in the drone and missile strike.

“Right now in Kyiv, first responders are clearing the rubble of an ordinary residential building after a Russian strike,” President Zelenskyy posted on X.

He continued, “Russia chooses ballistics instead of the negotiating table. It chooses to continue killing instead of ending the war. And this means that Russia still does not fear the consequences. Russia still takes advantage of the fact that at least part of the world turns a blind eye to murdered children and seeks excuses for Putin.”

Zelenskyy further emphasized that it is “definitely time for new, tough sanctions against Russia for everything it is doing.”

“All deadlines have already been broken, dozens of opportunities for diplomacy ruined. Russia must feel accountable for every strike, for every day of this war. Eternal memory to all victims of Russia,” he concluded.

The said it successfully intercepted 563 out of 598 drones and 26 out of 31 missiles that Russia launched in a nationwide attack. It noted that 13 locations were impacted, and debris landed in 26 areas.

“Unfortunately, the Russians’ style is typical in their attacks,” Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, wrote via Telegram.

The post added, “Combined strikes, from different directions. And systematic, targeting ordinary residential buildings.”

Officials confirmed that numerous structures, including several high-rise apartment blocks, sustained damage.

Tkachenko reported that in the Darnytskyi district, a five-story building was partially destroyed, and rescue teams were searching through the rubble for trapped individuals.

He mentioned that emergency crews responded to the aftermath of the attacks at more than 20 sites across the city.

Fires also erupted in various parts of the city.

António Costa, president of the European Council, expressed that he was “horrified by yet another night of deadly Russian missile attacks on Ukraine.”

He wrote on X, “My thoughts are with the Ukrainian victims and also with the staff of @EUDelegationUA, whose building was damaged in this deliberate Russian strike.”

He added, “The EU will not be intimidated. Russia’s aggression only strengthens our resolve to stand with Ukraine and its people.”

Separately, said that its air defense systems intercepted 102 Ukrainian drones during the night.
