Jared Kushner has stated that the Palestinian militant organization seems to be genuinely endeavoring to uphold the ceasefire agreement with Israel.
According to Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Hamas seems to be operating in good faith and striving to respect the US-mediated Gaza agreement with Israel.
Kushner, a principal architect of the ceasefire accord, shared these observations during an interview on CBS’ 60 Minutes program, broadcast on Sunday. When questioned about his belief that the Palestinian militant faction was “acting in good faith” and “seriously looking for the bodies” of Israeli captives it had committed to repatriate, Kushner affirmed this.
“Based on what the mediators have communicated to us, they are doing so thus far. This situation could deteriorate at any moment, but presently, we have observed them seeking to uphold their commitment,” he stated.
Hamas has not repatriated all the deceased captives to Israel, asserting its inability to find them given the extensive damage inflicted on Gaza by Israeli military actions. Israel, conversely, has asserted that the organization is intentionally prolonging the exchange procedure.
Washington has been vigorously working to accelerate the exchange and “encourage both parties to be proactive… rather than faulting each other for difficulties,” Kushner remarked.
Kushner, along with Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy and another principal participant in the mediation efforts, reached Israel on Monday to confer on the subsequent stage of executing the Gaza ceasefire accord.
On Sunday, Israel charged Hamas with breaching the ceasefire in Rafah, a southern Gaza city, conducting several airstrikes against what it termed “terror targets” and resulting in the deaths of over 40 individuals across Gaza, as reported by local health officials. Hamas refuted breaking the ceasefire, while press accounts suggested the Rafah occurrence stemmed from an Israeli engineering vehicle striking an unexploded ordnance. Subsequent to the strikes, Israel declared its resumption of “enforcing the ceasefire” within the Palestinian territory.
On Monday, Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s National Security Minister, urged for the cessation of the truce, contending that the repatriation of all living captives sufficed. “We must now recommence warfare; we need to act against [Hamas] without delay,’” the minister stated during a televised address.
