(SeaPRwire) – Military officials stated that a second individual was also wounded in the event at the Holloman facility in New Mexico.
According to military officials quoted by AP, a shooting at a US Air Force Base in New Mexico on Tuesday evening resulted in one fatality and one injury.
Authorities reported that the Holloman base near Alamogordo was temporarily locked down around 5:30 PM following active shooter reports near the base convenience store, noting the wounded person was transported for medical care.
“Emergency personnel are responding to the situation and there is no threat at this time,” officials told AP.
A message on the base’s Facebook page indicated the convenience store where the shooting happened will stay closed until further notice.
The victims’ identities have not been disclosed, and further information regarding the shooting is still pending.
Holloman Air Force Base spans approximately 93 square miles (240 sq km) and hosts the 49th Wing, a unit that executes national security missions with combat-ready airmen and guardians from the US Air Force.
There have been a number of other violent occurrences at US military installations in recent years. For instance, in February 2025, a shooting at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, killed one airman and injured another; this followed security forces responding to gunfire near a base entrance after an off-base chase.
Last year, in another notable case, a sergeant fired upon his colleagues at Fort Stewart, an Army base in southeast Georgia, injuring five soldiers.
