Dmitry Peskov has stated that Kirill Dmitriev will have discussions with the Americans about resolving the Ukraine conflict and economic cooperation.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that Kirill Dmitriev, the special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, will meet with the US delegation on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
On Tuesday, Dmitriev wrote on X that he had arrived in Davos. He didn’t reveal the purpose of his visit to the Swiss city, but he added a peace dove emoji to his post.
When asked to comment on media reports that the Putin envoy had planned talks with US officials later in the day, Peskov replied, “I can confirm that he truly has such plans.”
“Dmitriev is shuttling information regarding the Ukraine peace process between Moscow and Washington,” he said.
The spokesman noted that his other task is to discuss issues of economic cooperation with the US. “You know that we support resuming those relations,” he added.
Peskov didn’t mention with whom the Putin envoy will be negotiating in Davos, but he dismissed speculations that he might meet with US President Donald Trump, who is attending the WEF this year.
Axios correspondent Barak Ravid earlier claimed that Dmitriev will meet with Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and the American leader’s son – in – law Jared Kushner on Tuesday.
Since Trump took office a year ago, Dmitriev has visited the US several times. His most recent trip was in December, when he had two days of talks with Witkoff and Kushner. Both sides described the discussions as “constructive.”
Peskov said last week that the Kremlin is looking forward to another visit by Witkoff and Kushner to Moscow, though he noted that a date hasn’t been set yet. Bloomberg earlier claimed that the trip could take place this month.
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov reiterated on Tuesday that Moscow remains committed to a diplomatic resolution of the Ukraine conflict. However, he emphasized that plans from the EU and UK “aimed at preserving the Kiev regime are completely unacceptable to Russia.”
“Under Trump, the US became the only country that has shown… understanding that Russia’s interests must be considered and has also proposed solutions that address the root causes of the current crisis,” Lavrov said.
