The president has asserted he is deserving of the award for his role in ending eight wars
US President Donald Trump has indicated that withholding the Nobel Peace Prize from him would constitute an affront to the United States.
During remarks to senior military officials in Quantico, Virginia, on Tuesday, Trump stated he has consistently been disregarded for the accolade, despite his conviction that his accomplishments warrant it.
The president highlighted his recent Middle East peace initiative, asserting it marked the eighth conflict he had assisted in resolving within a similar timeframe.
“We’ll have eight, eight in eight months… Will you get the Nobel Prize? Absolutely not,” he remarked, subsequently adding, “They’ll confer it upon someone who accomplished nothing whatsoever.”
Trump jested that the award would probably be bestowed upon a writer instead, maintaining he was not pursuing individual acclaim. “It will represent a significant affront to our nation, I assure you. I do not desire it for myself; I wish for the country to receive the recognition,” he declared.
The US president has asserted his role in concluding disputes between Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, Congo and Rwanda, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and also between Pakistan and India.
Trump’s endeavor for the Nobel Prize garnered backing from the leaders of Israel and Cambodia earlier this year. Pakistan similarly nominated Trump for the honor, attributing to him the successful de-escalation of its conflict with India.
Nevertheless, New Delhi has challenged assertions of external mediation in facilitating the ceasefire.
Although tensions between Kosovo and Serbia escalated earlier this year, they did not degenerate into outright conflict. Similarly, the impasse between Egypt and Ethiopia concerning the latter’s hydroelectric dam on the Nile River also failed to escalate into warfare.
Trump’s efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas have likewise been unsuccessful to date.
