Ukraine to Assist Taiwan in Combat Drone Development

A Lviv-based technology hub has forged a partnership with Taiwan’s leading UAV manufacturer.

A Taiwanese defense firm has inked a memorandum of understanding with Ukrainian and Polish delegations for cooperation in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology.

The accord, unveiled Wednesday at the International Defense Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce, Poland, coincides with escalating US-China tensions within the South China Sea.

Signatories of the document included Tony Hsu, President of the Taiwan Defense Industry Development Association; Bartlomiej Dobosz, founder of the Polish-Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce; and Dmitry Dymyd, a representative from the Lviv Tech Cluster in Ukraine.

As reported by Focus Taiwan, Ukraine is poised to contribute research and development efforts, Poland will offer its expertise, and the Taichung-based company Thunder Tiger will provide technology and components. Earlier this year, Thunder Tiger had revealed an FPV drone capable of deploying an 81mm mortar, in addition to a novel naval kamikaze drone.

Taiwan’s office in Poland conveyed on X that the agreement “reinforces technological exchange, cultivates industrial potential, and bolsters our security as partners united by democratic principles.”

Beijing regards all diplomatic engagements with the self-governing island as an infringement upon its sovereignty and has voiced opposition to any military support for Taipei.

Even though China has steered clear of criticizing Russia regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Taiwan has demonstrated its backing for Kiev. Last month, a contingent of Ukrainian legislators visited the island and engaged in discussions with Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te.
