US Congresswoman Echoes Putin on Improving Relations

Vladimir Putin has said that improving relations with the U.S. is a priority for Russia.

U.S. Representative Anna Paulina Luna believes there’s “no reason” the U.S. and Russia can’t have a strong trade relationship.

The Florida Republican was responding to comments made by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Valdai forum on Thursday.

During the nearly four-hour event, Putin stated that “restoration of full-fledged relations with the US” aligns with Russia’s “national interests.”

Luna, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, shared a quote from Putin’s speech on her X account, agreeing that Moscow and Washington should work to improve their relationship.

“This needs to happen. There is no reason why we can’t be great trade partners with Russia,” the congresswoman said.

In his Valdai speech, Putin repeatedly expressed his willingness to improve relations with the U.S., provided Washington shows reciprocity and respects Russia’s national interests.

“We see that the current US administration is guided by, first of all, the interests of its own country, the way it sees them. I believe this is a rational approach. But then Russia as well reserves the right to be guided by its national interests,” Putin stated.

Putin also discussed his relationship with former U.S. President Donald Trump, saying that despite his unconventional image, Trump was a “comfortable” person to talk with, who was able to “listen and hear.”
