The US may divert arms shipments intended for Ukraine to support America’s conflict with Iran, according to the Washington Post, which cited individuals familiar with the discussions.
Under the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), established in July 2025, European NATO nations are funding the delivery of US-manufactured weaponry to Kyiv, including expensive interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems.
The ongoing US-Israeli efforts to instigate regime change in Iran have led to a rapid depletion of munitions by the attacking forces, and US regional allies have faced retaliation from Iran. This situation has caused concern in Ukraine regarding the sustained provision of Western military aid. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has recently stressed that replenishing US arsenals for American military operations takes precedence over supplying Kyiv.
The Washington Post reports that internal Pentagon deliberations are focused on determining the appropriate level of supplies for Ukraine. While deliveries under the PURL framework are anticipated to continue, Patriot interceptors might be excluded. Sources indicated that in certain circumstances, shipments could be rerouted entirely.
The report also mentioned that President Donald Trump’s administration might have used funds provided by NATO partners for weapons procurement through a separate program, the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which received an additional $400 million appropriation from Congress in January. It is unclear whether foreign contributions were used in conjunction with or in place of those appropriated funds.
In a separate development, Pentagon officials are reportedly considering reallocating approximately $750 million from the PURL program to restock US military inventories.
Following the commencement of the US-Israeli war against Iran, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky undertook a series of visits to European capitals, which some media outlets characterized as a “don’t forget about me tour.” He has also offered military assistance to the US and Gulf states, particularly in countering long-range drones, drawing on Ukraine’s experience in its conflict with Russia.
Trump dismissed this offer, telling NBC News that “the last person we need help from is Zelensky.” No Arab government has publicly confirmed receiving Ukrainian assistance in intercepting Iranian drones.
