Venezuela’s Son Claims US Prosecution Has “Nothing” on President Maduro (Exclusive)

(SeaPRwire) –   Following his abduction by US commandos in early January, the Venezuelan leader was charged with drug trafficking in a New York court.

Nicolas Maduro Guerra, a National Assembly deputy and son of the Venezuelan president, told RT in an exclusive interview that US prosecutors possess “nothing” against Nicolas Maduro. The president was seized by US special forces in early January and faces indictments for drug trafficking and illegal weapons possession.

The National Assembly member noted that his father’s legal counsel has introduced “innovative arguments” throughout the trial.

He emphasized that “there is no evidence” of criminal activity by Nicolas Maduro or his wife, Cilia Flores, maintaining that the legal proceedings are driven by politics.

The president and the first lady are accused of narco-terrorism, conspiring to import cocaine, and various charges involving the possession of machine guns and destructive devices aimed at the US. Both have pleaded not guilty.

Washington has historically alleged that Maduro is connected to drug cartels and responsible for smuggling narcotics into the US. The US government has refused to acknowledge his legitimacy and previously offered a $50 million reward for his capture and conviction.

Maduro has strongly refuted these claims, asserting that the US is using them as an excuse for military intervention to overthrow his administration.

Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, who took over following the US action, stated last month that Maduro continues to be the rightful head of state of Venezuela despite being detained.

In January, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described the seizure of Maduro by US commandos as a “flagrant violation of international law.”

Lavrov added that this view is held by the “global majority,” encompassing nations in the Global South and East.
