Abdulhamid faces gatekeeper Egara in latest Sanman show

WELTERWEIGHT prospect Adam Diu Abdulhamid headlines Sanman Promotions’ latest boxing show on Oct. 29, 2021 at the Sanman Gym in Gen. Santos City.

Abdulhamid takes on veteran Jason Egera in a 12-round bout for the vacant RP welterweight belt.

The 26-year-old Abdulhamid, the former World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific Youth welterweight champion, is a winner of back-to-back fights—beating veterans Romeo Jakosalem and Richard Betos by knockout.

Egera, on the other hand, has not fought since a split draw with Roberto Gonzale in 2020. The former WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight champion is known as a gatekeeper that tests up-and-coming fighters. He has fought the likes of current International Boxing Federation super flyweight king Jerwin Ancajas, Marvin Sonsona, Michael Farenas, Drian Francisco, Jhack Tepora, Romero Duno and AJ Banal.

Abdulhamid is 16-9 with eight knockouts, while Egera is 24-22-3 with 11 knockouts.

“We invite all boxing fans to join us via Facebook Live. You know how Sanman operates, we always deliver good fights. Thank you for always supporting our boxers,” said Sanman Promotions chief executive officer JC Manangquil.

Sanman Promotions has been one of the busiest boxing promotional companies in the Philippines during the Covid-19 pandemic along with Cebu-based Omega Sports Promotions.

This will be the sixth “bubble boxing” event of Sanman Promotions.

Former world title challenger Aston Palicte (27-4-1, 23 KOs) faces Roland Jay Biendima in a 10-round main supporting bout.

Palicte is working his way back up after two failed bids for a world title. He fought fellow Filipino Donnie Nietes for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) super flyweight belt to a split draw in 2018. He then challenged WBO super flyweight king Kazuto Ioka the following year but got stopped in the 10th round.

In the undercard, experienced ex-world title contender Richie Mepranum (35-8-1, 10 KOs) ends a two-year layoff and faces battle-scarred veteran Nicardo Calamba (9-32-5, 6 KOs), 2012 Olympan Mark Anthony Barriga (10-1, 2 KOs) trades leathers with Ramel Antaran (4-14-2), knockout artist Michael Casama (6-0, 6 KOs) locks horns with Joe Tejones (13-8, 7 KOs), Joey Canoy (16-5-1, 9 KOs) looks to bounce back from a loss in South Africa and takes on Michael Camelion (11-13-3, 9 KOs), unbeaten hard-hitter Ian Sampan (3-0, 3 KOs) slugs it out with Dave Barlas (5-2-1, 3 KOs), Bryl Bayogos faces off with Elizer Amban, Mark Onal (2-2) squares off with Jeffrey Diale (0-1) and Kenneth Engano (1-0) exchanges blows with Emmanuel Juan.
