Ambo faces Gonzalez for WBC Middle East belt

JOSEPH Ambo is looking to continue his streak in the ring as he takes on unbeaten Cuban warrior Dayan Gonzalez for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Middle East featherweight belt in People’s Fighters on May 13, 2023 at the Agenda Arena in Dubai, UAE.

Ambo is currently on a three-fight winning streak. Following a loss to South African Yanga Sigqibo in 2019, he bounced back with a convincing unanimous decision win over previously undefeated American Darren Cunningham in 2021 to secure the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) featherweight title in Georgia, USA.

The 26-year-old Ambo fought the following year and stopped veteran Crison Omayao in three rounds and then beat Romnick Magos, another experienced fighter, by unanimous decision.

Dayan had a very busy 2022 with a total of seven fights that year. He won six of those fights, while one fight ended in a no contest. He already fought twice this year and scored a second round knockout of Ugandan Zubairi Nadhomie and a third round knockout of Pinoy Alie Laurel.

Ambo is 12-2-1 with seven knockouts, while the 24-year-old Dayan is 9-0 with seven knockouts.

In the main event, world-rated Jadier Herrera (10-0, 8 KOs) faces off with Jeff Ofori (12-4-1, 3 KOs) in a WBC International super featherweight title fight. (EKA)
