Ateneo de Cebu standout Jared Bahay makes Gilas Under-16 squad

SHS-Ateneo de Cebu’s rising basketball star Jared Bahay has been named to the final roster of the Gilas Pilipinas Under-16 squad that will compete in the FIBA -16 Men’s Asian Championship in Doha, Qatar.A native of Mambaling, Cebu, the 5-foot-9 Bahay said his inclusion to the national team is a lifelong dream come true.“It feels great to be named to the national team. It is a dream come true for me. And I will be gaining a lot of experiences from this Batang Gilas stint,” said Bahay, who currently is in Manila training with the rest of the Batang Gilas team, which also includes his former teammate, Kristian Michael Porter, who is now with Ateneo High School in Manila.Bahay shared that he didn’t expect this to happen to him with the presence of many talented players who tried out for the squad. Still, with equal parts determination and grit, Bahay was able to showcase enough of his skills and talent to impress the coaching staff that is being led by Josh Reyes, the son of current Gilas head coach, Chot Reyes.Aside from Bahay and Porter, the Batang Gilas squad is composed of Dwyne Miranda, Lebron Nieto, Elijah Yusi, Andy Gemao, Santi Romero, JP Pangilinan, Jayden Jones, Renzo Competente, CJ Amos, Veejay Pre, Jacob Bayla, Inigo Torres, Caelum Harris, Alex Konov, Basti Reyes, and Zain Mahmood.Bahay said it’s been such an honor to train with the best players from his age group.“I feel honored to train with them since they are the best players in our country. Though I have no experience yet competing against the best Asia teams, I’m sure that it will feel great to compete against them for they will become the future stars of their country,” added Bahay.
