Bicol Volcanoes tap Ayo as new head coach

MULTIPLE-TIME champion coach Aldin Ayo will be back on the sidelines as head coach, this time with the Bicol Volcanoes in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).

With the league set to stage an invitational tournament this December, Ayo finds himself in a familiar spot as leader of a Volcanoes team that is raring to make a splash.

This is actually Ayo’s second stint as head coach of an MPBL squad after he coached the Muntinlupa Cagers-Angelis Resort in 2018.

After resigning from coaching the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers in the UAAP, Ayo was tapped to be the head coach of the Chooks-to-Go 3×3 squad. One of his players on that squad—Cebuano star Mac Tallo—will be one of his go-to guys on Bicol’s MPBL team.

The Volcanoes had a respectable campaign under Monel Kallos in the Lakan Cup, finishing the regular season with a 16-14 win-loss card before falling to eventual champions Davao Occidental in the first round of the Southern Division playoffs.
