BISROCK band Aggressive Audio has cried foul over the unauthorized use of their hit song “Liar Evil” by Talisay City Vice Mayor Allan Bucao who is running for mayor in the May elections.Band vocalist Eugene Corpin lamented that the lyrics of their song were changed without asking permission from them and their song publisher Ian Zafra.The band and Zafra held a press conference on Monday, April 18, 2022 to air their grievances over the unlawful use of the song.During Bucao’s campaign sorites, his team reportedly brought along with them a singer tasked to sing “Liar Evil” with the changed lyrics attacking the vice mayor’s former ally—the reelectionist Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr.Zafra said they had contacted a relative of the singer to stop using the song but they received criticism instead.“Sakitan mi kay wala baya mi nagpagamit sa politika (We are hurt because we do not allow ourselves to get involved with politics),” he said.Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines considers music a form of intellectual property and it is under the protection of local music copyright laws.The band has denied they support the candidacy of Gullas, saying they are not into politics.Aside from Corpin, the other band members are guitarists Sidney Alburo and Chris Arthur Amores, bass player Vincent Ngalis and drummer Joel Ablanque.Superbalita Cebu called and texted Bucao several times but got no response from him as of press time.
