OPERATIVES of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested two men, including a barangay councilor, who were accused of killing a village chief and injuring a tanod from Asturias town on Sept. 16, 2021.
Police arrested Ricardo Bohol, a barangay councilor of Kaluangan, Asturias town; and Richard Gonzaga, were arrested in the same barangay on Monday, Sept. 27.
The two were accused of allegedly killing Kaluangan village chief Jionri Noya Aligato.
Aligato, along with tanod Emedio Aligato, were on board their motorcycle when they were ambushed by unidentified men in Barangay Tag-Ubi, Compostela town.
The village chief sustained a fatal gunshot wound on his chest and shots on hi legs while Emedio only sustained a few injuries.
CIDG 7 Director Col. Ireneo Dalogdog said they were able to trace Bohol and Gonzaga’s links to Aligato’s murder through the motorcycle that they left at the crime scene.
Dalogdog said the motorcycle was traced to Samuel Yungco, a resident of Barangay Babag 1 in Cebu City.
After inviting him for an investigation, Yungco admitted to police that he was offered by Bohol to kill Aligato for P10,000.
But Yungco refused Bohol’s offer but allowed the barangay councilor to use his motorcycle to commit the crime.
The village chief’s companion, who was also his cousin, positively identified Gonzaga as one of those who ambushed them.
Police believed Bohol had a personal grudge against Aligato after environmental enforcers confiscated the former’s truck after it was caught carrying coal.
Bohol reportedly got angry with Aligato for reporting the matter to the authorities.
CIDG 7 operatives have already lodged murder and frustrated murder charges against Bohol and Gonzaga. (AYB / JKV)
