Now I don’t have all the details. In fact, I think nobody does. I know the establishment issued a statement on its social media page and part of it was carried by SunStar Cebu in its Dec. 29 issue.
But it seems some members of the public have already condemned the bar and its customers who allegedly harassed the British chef’s daughter.
I have seen the footage from the bar’s closed-circuit television camera, and it appears to confirm what the statement said that it was the chef who initiated the attack.
In fairness to him, his bone of contention was that “F Bar’s bouncers held him down” so he couldn’t fight back and “the lady manager joined in the melee, even providing a bottle to beat him further….”
And he claimed that he was defending his daughter who was allegedly harassed, which is why he will file child abuse charges against some of the bar’s personnel apart from the frustrated homicide case that he will pursue against them.
Or so the article said.
Police did not name the other persons involved in the incident, but they should have. That way, we get to hear their side of the story.
I don’t think Cebuanos would attack a foreigner, or anyone for that matter, for no apparent reason.
And let’s face it. It was Christmas Eve. There was probably a lot of merriment going around and everyone may have had one drink too many, which usually happens when in a bar.
At any rate, according to the statement, the establishment was informed that the parties involved had gone to the police and the barangay and had settled everything.
But the story didn’t end there.
Still, I am amazed that the NBI 7 and the Cebu City Police Office have dropped everything to look into the incident. Oh, I exaggerate, but it certainly looks that way.
But what if the aggrieved party was, shall we say, a Chinese national or a Korean or an Arab or an African, would their response be similar?
I was reading some of the comments on social media and I was aghast, yes, aghast, that many Filipino netizens were taking the side of the chef without getting the full picture.
And what if the result of the investigation comes out that the chef was at fault? What then?
By the way, I have never been to F. Café and Bar, and I don’t know the owner or the manager or anyone who works there.
