Cebu City completes looped bike lanes

THE Cebu City Government with the help of the public works department’s Central Visayas has completed the bike lanes on 24 roads in the city.

The roads with 1.5-meter bike lanes include V. Rama Ave., Salvador St., Katipunan St., Tres de Abril St., Carlock St., B. Aranas St., Lakandula St., Tupas St., Magallanes St., Jakosalem St. Osmeña Blvd., Lapu-Lapu St., and Urdaneta St.

There are also bike lanes on M.J. Cuenco Ave., New Imus Road, M.J. Cuenco Ave., F. Gochan St., F. Cabahug St., Cardinal Rosales Ave., Ayala Road, Gorordo Ave., Gen. Maxilom Ave., Fuente Osmeña Rotunda and B. Rodriguez St.

The construction of bike lanes is in line with Cebu City Ordinance 2408. Mayor Edgardo Labella has formed the Sugbo Bike Lane Board (SBLB) to focus on the implementation of the ordinance.

The Cebu City Transportation Office urged motorists not to block the bike lanes. Vehicles caught parking on bike lanes will be towed.

Cebu City’s bike lanes are looped so bikers can use these lanes without interruption. Drivers of motorcycles and four-wheel vehicles can encroach on the bike lanes while traveling, but they have to make sure there are no bicycles ahead of them. (PAC)
