Cebu City logs no new Covid-19 cases for first time on Dec. 12

CEBU City logged zero infections from the 500 samples tested on Dec. 12, 2021, the first time since coronavirus disease (Covid-19) reached Cebu.

City Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), said it was the first time that no Covid-19 infections were recorded from the individuals tested.

Garganera said since the start of the pandemic, the test results were often released late and there was no instance that the city logged zero cases.

Cebu City currently has 27 active Covid-19 cases, the lowest in the city so far this year.

Garganera said due to the continuous decline in the daily positivity rate, the accumulative positivity rate has also dropped sharply from 11 percent to only 9.01 percent of the total.

The councilor urged Cebuanos to continue the usual adherence to health protocols such as wearing of face masks and observing social distancing so that Covid-19 cases do not increase again and everyone can celebrate Christmas and New Year with a complete and healthy family.

Garganera said it is not impossible for Cebu City to reach zero active cases in the next few weeks if vaccination is continued and health protocols are followed.

Barangays with the highest Covid-19 cases have only four cases while others have three, two, and one in the past 10 days, Garganera said.
