Cebu City opens 3rd vax site for minors

THE Cebu City Government opened a pediatric Covid-19 vaccination site at the Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT-U) on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.

This is the third vaccination site established by the City exclusive for minors ages 12 to 17.

Aside from the vaccination site at CIT-U, the other two vaccination sites are located at the Southwestern University-Phinma (SWU-Phinma) campus in Barangay Sambag 1 and at the Robinsons Cybergate mall in Fuente Osmeña.

Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, Cebu City Health Department chief, said they target to vaccinate 500 minors per site.

However, Ibones also said getting 1,000 vaccinees per site is possible because walk-ins are to be accommodated.

“Hopefully, we can reach 1,500 vaccinees in a day. The most would be 2,000 a day. This is a big improvement and a big help because this site can accommodate many people,” Ibones added.

Ibones said in order to get more minors in the city to get vaccinated, they plan to open a fourth pediatric vaccination site, this time at the Cebu City Sports Complex on December 16.

“Next year, our plan is to accomplish our target of 100,000 vaccinees and probably we might be able to start with the 5-11 age group by next year as well,” Ibones added.

The City Health Department is targeting 100,000 minors aged 12-17 for vaccination.

As of December 7, about 21,000 vaccinees belonging to the 12-17 age group, or an estimated 20 percent, had been vaccinated.
