Cebu City opens first 3 floors of new CCMC

THE first three floors of the new 10-story Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) building for the city’s non-Covid patients were opened on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021, but no patients were transferred that day because it still lacked the beds.

Acting Mayor Michael Rama led the city officials in the soft opening because Mayor Edgardo Labella was still on leave. Labella, before his medical leave, had pushed for the completion of the new CCMC building.

The first three floors have a capacity of 200 beds, and the grand opening will be held on Sept. 18.

The P1 billion budget that was included in the first supplemental budget for the completion of the seventh to 10th floors was already approved last July.

Hospital Administrator Yvonne Cania said the non-Covid patients will be transferred to the new CCMC building.

The non-Covid patients and Covid-19 patients are currently occupying the old building that houses the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO).

The new Covid-19 patients will be placed in the old CCTO office.

Engineer Lowel Corminal, officer in charge of the Department of Engineering and Public Works, said they still have some work to do.

They still have to put a ramp and tiles, paint the walls and complete the construction of four comfort rooms. (PAC / KAL)
