Cebu City total cases reach 37,000

CEBU City’s total Covid-19 cases have now breached the 37,000 mark after 243 active cases were added to the list on Friday, Aug. 27, 2021.

The new infections brought the total number of confirmed cases to 37,086 since the start of the pandemic last March 2020.

The 243 new active cases from a batch of 1,248 swab samples taken by the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) brought Cebu City’s positivity rate to 19.47 percent.

Cebu City now has 3,427 active cases admitted in hospitals, barangay isolation centers and quarantine hotels.

Aside from those who tested positive of the virus, the EOC also logged 114 recoveries on Friday.

The EOC data also showed that of the 37,086 total number of Covid cases in Cebu City, 32,458 or 87.52 percent recovered.

However, the EOC also recorded more deaths due to Covid from the city’s upland barangays, Councilor Joel Garganera, EOC deputy chief implementer said.

Garganera said the deaths tagged from the city’s mountain barangays rose to 51 as of Aug. 27.

Of the number, 36 deaths occurred in north mountain barangays, while 15 were from south mountain barangays.

The deaths from mountain villages constitute 21.70 percent of the 235 total deaths recorded for the month of August alone.

The mountain barangays with reported deaths are Adlaon (3), Agsungot (1), Bacayan (9), Binaliw (4), Busay (10), Cambinocot (1), Guba (2), Pit-os (4), Pulangbato (1), and Sirao (1) in the north district and barangays Babag (1), Bonbon (1), Buhisan (4), Buot (1), Kalunasan (4), Sapangdaku (2), Tabunan (1), and Toong (1) in the south.

The total Covid-related deaths in Cebu City have reached 1,201, according to the EOC.

Cebu City has a case fatality rate of 3.24 percent.(JJL)
