Dapudong, Medura falter

ONE-TIME world title challenger Edrin Dapudong and Alvin Medura lost their respective fights in Japan on Saturday night, Sept. 3, 2022 (PH time), while Rimar Metuda walked away with a knockout win in Thailand.Dapudong suffered a first-round knockout in the hands of two-time world title challenger Ryo Akaho at the Korkuen Hall in Tokyo.Akaho dropped Dapudong with a left hook to the head. Dapudong failed to beat the referee’s count and was stopped at the 2:47 mark of the opening round.The 36-year-old Dapudong’s chance of fighting for a world title again seems dim for now as he dropped to 35-8-1 with 21 knockouts.Akaho improved to 39-2-2 with 26 knockouts. He’s looking to fight either Johnriel Casimero or Luis Nery next.Meanwhile, at the Edion Arena in Osaka, Alvin Medura lost to ex-world title contender Sho Ishida via a convincing unanimous decision.Ishida totally outclassed Medura and beat him on all three scorecards with identical scores of 80-71.Medura fell to 10-7 with seven knockouts, while Ishida is now 31-3 with 16 knockouts.In Thailand, Rimar Metuda (16-6-1, 10 KOs) knocked out winless Thop Ainphamon (0-4) in the fourth round at the Spaceplus Bangkok RCA in Bangkok.
