DPWH spends P126M to stem traffic, floods in northern Cebu

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed P125.7 million worth of projects that will improve commuter mobility and reduce flooding in northern Cebu, the agency announced this week.

On Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, the DPWH said it had completed a P96 million flood mitigation structure along the Cansaga River in Barangay Danglag, Consolacion to deal with the barangay’s perennial flooding problem.

The structure implemented by the DPWH Cebu 6th District Engineering Office aims to prevent the shifting of river ways and the loss of land mass in the area, DPWH 7 Director Ernesto Gregorio Jr. said in a statement.

To protect against rapid water flow, the flood control structure has a length of 1.72 kilometers, the agency said.

Last Wednesday, Feb. 22, the DPWH added that it had also rehabilitated and improved the Cebu North Hagnaya Wharf Road (Old Route) passing through Danao City.

Gregorio said the P29.7 million project implemented by the DPWH Cebu 5th District Engineering Office includes the construction of drainage facilities to address the accumulation of stagnant water and reduce the risk of flooding during downpours.
