Duno pounces on Esperanza sans mercy

ROMERO Duno had an impressive US ring return with a first-round stoppage win over Paraguayan veteran Ramon Esperanza at the Hilton Miami Airport in Miami, Florida.

Duno showed his dominance in the opening round and forced the 37-year-old Esperanza to quit on his stool at the break.

The 25-year-old Duno is back on track at another run in the lightweight division in the US.

Duno became one of the lightweight division’s rising stars after a second-round knockout of previously unbeaten prospect Christian Gonzalez in 2017. He followed it up with six straight wins in the US.

Duno finally found his match and was knocked out by American rising star Ryan Garcia in the first round in their World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization NABO lightweight fight in 2019.

Duno, who trains under the guidance of Cuban coach Moro Fernandez, improved to 23-2 with 18 knockouts, while Esperanza dropped to 22-20-1 with 11 knockouts. (EKA)
