Duterte: I won’t support any presidential bet

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has reiterated that he will not endorse any presidential candidate for the 2022 elections this May 9.Duterte made the statement during the Joint National and Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-RTF ELCAC) Central Visayas meeting with local and national officials on Thursday night, March 31, 2022 at the Jpark Island Resort in Lapu-Lapu City.“I am not supporting any presidential candidate. Neutral ako. So this is not the campaign because I am not campaigning for any particular candidate,” Duterte said.Duterte’s statement runs contrary to the recent announcement of PDP-Laban’s Cusi wing endorsing former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as its official presidential bet. Duterte is the chairman of the PDP-Laban faction headed by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi. But Duterte said he is willing to support any candidate as long as they continue his fight against illegal drugs and insurgency.Meanwhile, Duterte also expressed his hopes that his administration’s efforts in the fight against communist and terrorist groups (CTG) will never be in vain even beyond his term.“It was only during my time that more people were killed. I assured our police that I will be there to protect them and to assume full legal responsibility for what they did,” Duterte said in a mix of Tagalog and English. He is even willing to face the charges filed against him before the International Criminal Court concerning the deaths related to his controversial “War on Drugs.”Duterte also assured the local and national government of his administration’s unrelenting support against insurgency and lawlessness.
