Espina: Canada revisited

Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama went on a friendly visit to Canada to be in touch with Filipinos there, listening to their concerns and informing them of the relevant issues and programs in Cebu. Cebu and Canada have long existing ties in business, politics, academe and culture. I have personally developed linkages, specifically in Vancouver and Calgary, through my cultural visits there during the active years of Women in Travel, through the University of San Jose-Recoletos College of Arts and Sciences, media tours etc.In fact, I almost migrated there for a media and teaching position arranged by then Consul Robert Lee but didn’t push through due to my dedication to my family and USJ-R.I remember meeting Vince and Lucille Colina in Vancouver when we had a tour there with then vice mayor and tourism chair Renato Osmeña, and a media tour with then tourism commissioner Nelia Neri. The specific years escape me.This trip of Mayor Rama is timely because it will explore more linkages and facilitate solutions to the concerns of our overseas Filipino workers. It also places Cebu in the tourism map of projects chaired by tourism commissioner Cinbeth Orellano.
