During the first quarter media briefing Monday, May 8, 2023, Darius Delgado, head of Globe Consumer Mobile Business, said this new product aims to deliver fiber connectivity to the broader market and cater to the underserved segment.
“With the postpaid broadband segment already saturated, Globe has shifted its focus to delivering home fiber connectivity via a prepaid proposition, which will be launched in the second quarter of 2023,” the company said.
The prepaid fiber, according to Delgado, will be its next big thing to solidify its footprint in the prepaid segment.
Globe’s prepaid fiber will feature a fully digital experience, coupled with sachet pricing and financing options relevant and accessible to the mass market.
“We will be offering speeds of a fiber connection with flexibility and affordability of prepaid,” added Raymond Policarpio, vice president of Globe at Home Brand Management.
This new product offers no lock-up fees, easy application with no documents required, no contract, and no fixed monthly fees but features budget-friendly sachet offers.
Globe will reveal the sachet pricing during the launching of the prepaid fiber next month.
Globe’s Home Broadband business concluded the first quarter of 2023 with revenues amounting to P6.5 billion, a decrease from P7 billion recorded during the same period last year.
This decline was still largely due to the continued reduction in the legacy and fixed wireless products, which was partly offset by the improvements seen in postpaid fiber subscribers and revenues, registering a year-on-year increase of 20 percent and 30 percent, respectively.
The total home broadband subscriber count now stands at 2.3 million or down by 33 percent year-on-year, given the changing dynamic of the industry, with HPW data traffic declining to only 86 petabytes as of end-March 2023 from 138 petabytes recorded in 2022.
Last year, Globe initially launched TMBayan Fiber WiFi, a prepaid public WiFi service where subscribers can connect their devices and have access to the internet.
With this service, Globe is converting sari-sari stores, town plazas, community centers and other neighborhood convergence areas into WiFi hotspots, expanding internet accessibility and improving the connectivity experience of customers.
