Guard cleaning firearm accidentally shoots fellow guard in Carcar City

A SECURITY guard landed in the hospital after he was accidentally shot by a fellow guard on Tuesday morning, March 7, 2023.

The incident happened at 7: 44 a.m. inside the Land Bank of the Philippines branch at the new public market in Barangay Poblacion 3, Carcar City in southern Cebu.

Injured was 45-year-old Renato Tibay, married, a resident of Basak Pardo, Cebu City.

Tibay, who is the bank’s head guard, suffered a gunshot wound in the left leg.

The shot was accidentally fired by 36-year-old Jonas Castro Pantigan, a resident of Sitio Tal-ot, Barangay Valencia, Carcar City.

Both men work for the Integrated Safeguard Agency.

Recovered at the scene was a 12-gauge Armscor shotgun owned by the security agency.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Ardioleto Cabagnot, chief of the Carcar City Police Station, Pantigan was cleaning the shotgun when he accidentally pulled the trigger.

Tibag was rushed to the hospital, while Pantigan was detained. (GPL)
