INFRASTRUCTURE and social service projects worth hundreds of millions of pesos became the highlight of the State of the Municipality Address (SOMA) of San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez on Monday, November 22, 2021.

Being the father of the town since 2013, Martinez showcased all the achievements of his administration for the last nine years beginning with the rehabilitation of public buildings damaged by Super Typhoon Yolanda.

Through an audio-visual presentation, programs and projects were shown with their corresponding budget and year implemented.

The improvement and rehabilitation of Hagnaya Port worth P90 million was one of the major projects done by Martinez.

Some of the major projects initiated by Martinez’s administration were the construction of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Office in 2015 and the construction of the Cebu Technological University campus that was finished in 2020.

Martinez also expressed his gratitude to non-government organizations for initiating the construction of houses and school buildings to replace those that were destroyed by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

Last February 2021, the municipality also conducted a serbisyo caravan initiative that aims to bring local government services closer to the people.

“As you can see, we have done several things and I am very proud of what we have been able to achieve,” Martinez said in Cebuano and English.

Martinez also highlighted his

administration’s pandemic response by being able to provide relief assistance to isolated families, purchase of medical equipment and financial assistance to barangays for their respective response programs.

Martinez concluded his speech by saying that the love he has for the municipality and its people is the reason that he is motivated to serve with passion.

This will be the last time that Martinez will hold a SOMA before his term ends in July 2022.

Martinez is set to seek a fresh term as vice mayor of the town.
