Laurente faces stiffest test in Bulacan

FORMER amateur standout Criztian Pitt Laurente faces his stiffest test to date as he trades leathers with fellow unbeaten prospect Richard Bulacan for the vacant Philippines (GAB) Youth super featherweight belt on May 28 in Biñan City, Laguna.“This is a test for Laurente,” Laurente’s handler, two-division world champion Gerry Peñalosa, told SunStar Cebu. The 22-year-old Laurente is coming off an impressive second round knockout of Vicente Casido last Feb. 26 in General Santos City.Laurente also owns wins over the clikes of former world title challenger Ernesto Saulong, former ALA Boy Boyce Sultan and journeyman Ernie Sanchez.Bulacan should be a dangerous opponent for Laurente. He’s unbeaten in eight fights and has power in his fists with a 75 percent knockout rate.Bulacan has beaten the likes of Rimon Rama, Michael Javier and Philippine champion Anthony Sabalde.Laurente must beat Bulacan if he wants to be given bigger opportunities by Peñalosa.“After one or two fights, I’ll be sending him to the US to campaign there,” said Peñalosa.Laurente is 9-0 with six knockouts, while Bulacan is 8-0 with six knockouts.
