Ligas vs. Libranza in ‘Kamao sa Bayambangueño’

PHILIPPINE Games and Amusements Board flyweight champion Ben Ligas attempts to bounce back from a loss against returning Genisis Libranza in the main event of “Kamao sa Bayambangueño” on March 30, 2023, at the Bayong Bayambang Events Center in Bayambang, Pangasinan.

Ligas is eager to return to the winning column after losing his biggest fight to date against world-ranked Olimjon Nazarov in a World Boxing Organization Oriental flyweight title fight in Vietnam last year. The 24-year-old Ligas lost to Nazarov by a close unanimous decision.

Libranza has been out of the ring for two years already. His last fight was in 2021, in which he knocked out former world title challenger John Mark Apolinario in a single round in Gen. Santos City.

Even though Libranza hasn’t fought for two years, he’s still riding on a nine-fight winning streak. His only career loss is in the hands of former world champion Moruti Mthalane via a fourth-round knockout in 2017.

Ligas is 14-3-2 with nine knockouts, while Libranza is 20-1 with 12 knockouts.

Meanwhile, Roy Sumugat (14-13-1, 7 KOs) takes on Richard Bulacan (8-2, 6 KOs) for the Philippine Boxing Federation lightweight belt in the main supporting bout.

Both pugs are eager to win after losing their last fights.

In the undercard, Gary Tamayo (8-1, 4 KOs) locks horns with journeyman Ardin Diale (35-17-4, 17 KOs), unbeaten prospect Ali Canega (8-0-1, 5 KOs) slugs it out with former world youth champion Sonny Katiandagho (14-6, 8 KOs) and undefeated up-and-comer Jonniel Laurente (6-0-1, 4 KOs) is up against experienced Pablito Canada (8-22-5, 2 KOs).

The show that’s promoted by VSP Promotions and Elorde UKC Promotions also features 13 undercard bouts. (EKA)
