Meat seller, 2 others gunned down in separate shootings

THREE men were killed in two separate shooting incidents in Cebu City’s mountain barangays from Wednesday night, Sept. 29, 2021 to Thursday dawn, Sept. 30.

In Barangay Toong, two men were gunned down by unidentified men at 7:20 p.m on Thursday.

Police identified the victims as Jonald Bacarisas Gomez, 24; and Nathaniel Gominil, 23, both residents of Sitio Poso, Barangay Buhisan.

Police Staff Sergeant Christopher Bongo, an investigator assigned at the Labangon Police Station, said Gomez and Gominil visited Sitio Mahayahay in Barangay Toong to have dinner with their friends.

But while walking the barangay, the two were suddenly gunned down.

Gominil died instantly while barangay tanods in the area were able to bring Gomez to the hospital, where he died.

Bongo told reporters that both victims were known troublemakers in the area and may have been sought after by other thugs who were angry with them.

But Bongo said that they cannot discount the possibility that the two may have been mistaken for other persons.

Barangay Toong chief Alejandro Borres said that their residents saw three men onboard motorcycles who shot the two victims.

While on Thursday dawn, a hog seller was gunned down by an unidentified assailant while slaughtering one of his pigs in Sitio Hamtik, Barangay Babag in Cebu City.

Police identified the victim as Jorge Ibona, 40.

Police Major Francis Renz Talosig, the chief of Mabolo Police Station, said they are still conducting further investigation to determine the motive behind Ibona’s murder.

But Ibona’s wife told reporters that her husband was slaughtering one of their pigs for meat outside their house when the incident happened.

Ibona’s wife said while she was inside their house, she heard a single gunshot.

When she quickly verified the matter, she saw her husband lying beside the pig that he slaughtered.

Ibona sustained several gunshot wounds on his body.

Ibona’s wife told police that she saw the lone gunman, who was wearing a bonnet, fleeing the crime scene. (AYB / JKV)
