NBI-Central Visayas nabs 4 Nigerian nationals for falsifying government IDs

OPERATIVES of the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI 7) arrested four Nigerian nationals in Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City for allegedly falsifying government identification cards and documents on Monday, June 13, 2022.The four were caught inside a private subdivision in Barangay Agus based on the search warrant issued by Judge Dinah Jane Gaceta-Portugal of the Lapu-Lapu Municipal Trial Court Branch 2.The arrested suspects were identified as Augustine Onyekachi Nkwocha, 40; Tosin Samuel Oguntoye, 30; Chibuike Joseph Nwokoro, 31; and Christopher Kenechukwu Okeke, whose identity has yet to be verified by the NBI 7.Arnel Pura, NBI 7 agent-in-charge, told reporters on Tuesday, June 14 that a woman who claims to be a girlfriend of the one of the suspects had approached their office to file a complaint against the foreigners.The woman, a Filipino, told the NBI 7 that she decided to report the matter to them after she was forced by her boyfriend to cooperate in their illegal activity.Pura said the fake IDs and documents were supposed to be used to open bank accounts for money transfers that they will use for the suspects’ online scams.The suspects copied the IDs of Philhealth, Bureau of Internal Revenue and NBI.Pura said the suspects falsified their IDs on Colon St. in Cebu City.The suspects were detained at the NBI 7 office in Cebu City and they will be subjected to verification by the Bureau of Immigration.They will also be charged for violating Article 170 of the Revised Penal Code, which prohibits and punishes falsification of public documents.
