This time around, I’m talking to daughters (last week I interviewed mothers) as a postscript to Mother’s Day. I asked the daughters of some friends on what they appreciate most in Mom and/or to share lessons in life that she has imparted to them.
Tricia Zosa Anton has always admired the gentle ways of her Mom, Teresita Cabatingan Zosa who she says is a shining example of kindness. Yes, she is trying her best to be the kind person that her Mom Tita is—always ready to lend a helping hand. Perseverance is another thing she learned from Mom whose favorite quote is…“There will always be a rainbow after the rain.”
Corito Escario Yu is grateful that her Mom, Corazon Borromeo Escario permitted her to study abroad when she was 15 years old. It was not an easy decision for Mom Zony and it involved a lot of trust and love to let a beloved daughter spread her wings early on. And that was when Corito learned to be emotionally strong and self-reliant, thanks to Mom who opened the opportunities for her.
Katrina Avila is the proud daughter of super active Jessica Rosello Avila who is not only a kitchen queen but a businesswoman as well. Kat disclosed that Mom Jeh has emphasized to her to work hard so as to be financially independent and empowered, and not to depend on anyone but herself.
Carolyn Climaco Amor still grieves for her late Mom Lydia Reyes Climaco who passed on unexpectedly about two years ago. She has countless memories to look back on but what has remained indelible in her heart and mind is the admonition of Mom: “Never compare yourself to others and be content with whatever God has given you.”
Jaja Chiongbian Rama has learned a lot in life just observing her Mom Nita Tanchoco Chiongbian who was widowed early and brought up five children on her own. Resilience, courage, strength and grit were what she saw in her Mom when she was growing up. As to mothering tips, Mom Nita has advised her to be more carefree, to let the children be, to enjoy them while they are young because children grow up so fast, and most of all, to be always happy.
Alice Tio Liu looks up to her Mom Rosie Go Tio as the ideal working Mom because she has successfully proven that one can be a good Mom even when involved in professional pursuits. The appreciative daughter declared that Mom Rosie has always been a most supportive and understanding mother, and is an advocate of cultivating spiritual growth thru community service. Mom has instilled in her the importance of family unity and love of family.
