AT LEAST 84,357 persons are expected to flock to the different polling precincts nationwide to cast their votes during the three-day local absentee voting that will begin from April 27, 2022 to April 29.Workers who would not be able to vote in the May 9, 2022 elections due to election-related duties, including members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP), government officials and employees and media practitioners are eligible to apply for local absentee voting.A total of 93,698 individuals have submitted their applications for the absentee voting but only 84,357 of them have been approved by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). The remaining 9,341 were rejected as they had not registered, while others failed to vote in the last two consecutive elections.Lawyer Jerome Brillantes, election supervisor of the Comelec Cebu, however, said that pre-registered local absentee voters can only vote for national positions such as president, vice president, senators and party-list groups and will use manual ballots. The filled-up ballots will be sent to the capital for canvassing of the votes chaired by the Committee on Local Absentee Voting.Brillantes urged the local absentee voters to follow the Covid-19 health safety protocols to maintain order during the election. Based on the latest update from the Comelec, the official ballots for the May 9 elections have already arrived and are expected to be delivered to the different Comelec offices in Cebu.
