Pagasa: Expect ‘ugly’ weather in Cebu on September 26

CEBU and other provinces in the Visayas on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022 will be cloudy with chances of light to moderate rains and occasional heavy rains as well as thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening due to the prevailing southwest monsoon (habagat),according to an official of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).Pagasa Visayas chief Alfredo Quiblat Jr. said the Visayas will not be directly affected bysuper Typhoon Karding (Noru), which was expected to make landfall in the northern part of Quezon or the southern part of Aurora in Luzon on Sunday evening, Sept. 25.Quiblat told SunStar Cebu on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, that only the southwest monsoon (habagat) will intensify with a wind speed of 30 to 50 kilometers per hour.He said the Pagasa will not issue a warning for the Visayas.Despite this, the state weather bureau’s Visayas chief said that the public should still take precautionary measures as floodings are expected, particularly when there are thunderstorms.Quiblat further said that strong waves will be experienced in the seawaters of Visayas, particularly in Central Visayas, but stressed that a gale warning is not expected to be issued. However, he urged owners of small sea vessels not to set sail while super Typhoon Karding is still in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).Quiblat said generally fair weather is expected Tuesday, Sept. 27, as the typhoon is expected to exit the PAR.
