PH thrashes Singapore in AFF Women’s Cup

THE Philippines remained hot at home in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship after a 7-0 thrashing of Singapore last July 6 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.Isabella Flanigan drew first blood with a volley in the eighth minute that breezed past Singapore goalkeeper Beatrice Tan.Skipper Tahnai Annis scored first of his two goals from a cross that bounced off veteran Ernie Sulastri two minutes later. Annis scored a brace in the 19th minute with a looping header.Annis turned playmaker as she assisted Sarina Bolden’s header in the 38th minute to give the Philippines a dominant 4-0 lead at halftime.The Philippines’ onslaught continued in the second half with three more goals. Kaya Hawkinson scored a header in the 55th minute. Sara Eggsevik added a goal a minute later.Anicka Castañeda came off the bench to hit the back of the net in the 69th minute.The Philippines holds the top spot in Group A with six points, followed by Thailand at second with four points. Malaysia is third with two points, Australia U-23 is fourth with a point, Indonesia is fifth with also a point and Singapore is last with also a point. Australia has a slight edge over Indonesia and Singapore on goal difference.The Philippines takes on Malaysia at 7 p.m. tonight. Australia faces Indonesia, while Thailand is up against Singapore.
