Selected Cebu LGUs receive additional Sinovac doses

THE Visayas Vaccination Operation Center (VVOC) reported that Cebu received another 108,080 doses of Sinovac on Sept. 14, 2021.

In her daily briefer, Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, the spokesperson of VVOC and the chief pathologist of the Department of Health 7, said Cebu City, Mandaue City, Talisay City, the town of Cordova and the rest of Cebu province were given allocation for this batch.

Cebu City received 46,000 doses of Sinovac, Mandaue City received 4,800 doses, Talisay City received 6,000 doses, Cordova town received 1,000 doses and 46,280 doses were for the rest of Cebu Province.

Some 4,000 doses were also allocated for Cebu Mitsumi, said Loreche.

Loreche emphasized that the local government units (LGUs) that received fresh allocations were those that had used up all of their previously allocated Sinovac doses.

Loreche congratulates these LGUs since they are faster in using their allocated vaccines than the other LGUs. This is why they have a new allocation.

Loreche said Cebu has hit the one million mark in the vaccination program for the first dose.

As of Sept. 13, Loreche reported that they had administered a total of 1,743,976 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, 1,020,541 of which are for the first dose and 723,435 for the second dose.

Despite this, Loreche said from Sept. 6 to 12, the LGUs in Metro Cebu had not hit their weekly jab target.

Of its target of 141,750 doses, Loreche said Metro Cebu administered only 23,672 doses which is 17 percent.

The LGUs under Metro Cebu are Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, Talisay City, Naga City, the town of Minglanilla, the town of Consolacion and the town of Cordova.

“We are beginning to see vaccine hesitancy now. There are people still unconvinced of the benefits of vaccines. There are those afraid also. There’s so much disinformation too,” said Loreche.

With this, Loreche urged the public to get vaccinated since it is the safest way to reopen the economy.

She said the entire pandemic response of the region is a triad of vaccination, minimum health protocol and testing.

Meanwhile, Loreche announced that Cebu will be included in the rollout of the digital vaccine certification on Sept. 20.

This certificate can be downloaded by the vaccinated person with a QR code, and can serve as proof that the vaccination cardholder was registered in the system and is indeed vaccinated. (KFD)
