Servania suffers 1st round KO loss in return to US

EX-WORLD title contender Genisis Servania had a rude welcome in his return to the US with a shocking first round knockout loss against unbeaten prospect Andres Cortes on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021 (PH time), at the Hard Rock Café in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Cortes brutally knocked out Servania with a solid left hook to the face near the end of the opening round. Servania dropped on the bottom rope and was clearly disoriented. Referee Jack Riess counted until five, stopping the fight after realizing that Servania couldn’t stand up and continue.

Servania suffered his second straight fight on US soil and dropped to 34-3 with 16 knockouts, while Cortes improved 15-0 with eight knockouts.

On the other hand, Filipino journeyman Richard Pumicpic gave unbeaten Abraham Nova a run for his money but fell short and lost by unanimous decision.

Pumicpic stunned the World Boxing Organization No. 3 rated super featherweight Nova in the opening round with a left hook that wobbled him.

Nova, however, overcame the slow start and dominated Pumicpic in the eight-round contest.

Nova got the nod of all three judges with scores of 79-73, 79-73 and 78-74 for the unanimous decision.

Pumicpic lost four of his last five fights and dropped to 22-12-2 with seven knockouts, while Nova improved to 20-0 with 14 knockouts. (EKA)
