AN INTOXICATED man drowned while swimming off the coast of Barangay Poblacion in the southwestern town of Dumanjug, Cebu on Saturday afternoon, February 25, 2023.
The victim was identified as 69-year-old Andoy Aniñon, single, a resident of Barangay Malalay in the neighboring town of Ronda.
Aniñon was pronounced dead on arrival in the hospital.
According to Master Sergeant Romeo Legaspi Jr. of the Dumanjug Police Station, the victim was at the beach with relatives. They were having a drinking session when Aniñon decided to take a dip.
Legaspi said Aniñon had a hard time keeping afloat after he was caught in a strong current.
The police officer said the victim was swimming near the mouth of a river.
He said residents saw Aniñon struggling in the water and rushed to help him.
He said members of the town’s Emergency Response Team were quick to arrive at the scene and brought him to the hospital. (GPL / PJB)
