This is the beauty of the internet: we can search just about anything in cyberspace. For example, I was just a heavenly concept when World War II exploded, but I can educate myself by a good search.We recently celebrated a name that is tightly tied with Philippine history. Anyone can google this name even if one was not yet born at the time this chapter in our history was written to get the correct perspective. There are many reliable sources.Edsa or Epifanio de los Santos Avenue is described as a limited-access circumferential highway around Manila. The name is not limited to Edsa Revolution 1986. History has also named the crucial historical event as the People Power Revolution that happened from Feb. 22 to 25, 1986. After the nation endured years under the shadow of one powerful man, Edsa or the people shouted freedom. The bloodless revolution ended the 20-year dictatorship of President Ferdinand E. Marcos (FEM), and started the restoration of democracy in the Philippines, according to Wikipedia.I was in senior year of high school when Martial Law was declared in 1972 under Proclamation 1081, dated Sept. 21 which is a number divisible by seven, a figure allegedly FEM viewed as lucky. The actual declaration was Sept. 23 but to this day Sept. 21 is marked as The Day.I remember my school was closed for over a month. My classmates and I were worried we would never graduate, and would have limited access to work and personal growth. I remember we had fear of saying things against the government although there was news about people disappearing or placed in a stockade.To get that name right, we need to search for facts. It is no excuse to say we were not yet born or were too young when something happened. We have technology to help us march towards the truth.
