Suspects in fatal stabbing of grade 10 scholar to be charged on Aug. 10

THE filing of the robbery with homicide charge against five suspects in the fatal stabbing of Grade 10 scholar Jerome Estan did not push through on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, because the medical certificate and the autopsy result did not arrive on time.Senior Master Sergeant Geofrey Gutual told Superbalita Cebu they will file the case on Wednesday, August 10 instead.Based on the autopsy conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Ian Paulo Vertucio of the PNP Crime Laboratory, Estan was stabbed twice in the chest, with one piercing his heart which caused his death.Gutual said they have strong evidence against the suspects after one confessed that he was present when the crime was committed and pointed to two siblings who are minors as the ones who stabbed the victim.Chubby, also a minor, was accompanied by his parents when he surrendered to police. He told them that Jether Tabora, a 22-year-old resident of Sitio Ciwak, Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City, served as the brothers’ backup during the robbery. He said the younger brother John held the victim’s hand to grab his cellphone. When Estan fought back, Chubby said the older brother Peter stabbed the victim in the chest twice.Tabora, for his part, denied any involvement in the crime. He said he was in the vicinity for something else.“Wala koy labot ana ilang gihimo. Nakakita ko sa pagdunggab kato si Peter ang nagdunggab ug iyang manghod. Nakita nako nga nidagan tong lalaki padung sa Citihardware ug didto siya natumba (I had no part in the crime. I saw Peter stab the victim with his brother’s help. I then saw the victim run towards Citihardware where he fell),” Tabora said.During the manhunt on Monday, Aug. 8, police received information that the siblings were spotted in another sitio in Barangay Bulacao. When they got there, the siblings had already left.Police learned that the siblings are orphans and have been living on the streets. (With PJB)
