Traffic congestion, flood mitigation among Consolacion mayor’s priorities

OPENING of new roads, expanding existing ones and eradicating flooding in some barangays are just some of the projects that newly elected Consolacion Mayor Teresa “Nene” Alegado wants done as she assumes the leadership of the northern Cebu town.During the inaugural session of Consolacion’s municipal council on Friday, July 1, 2022, Alegado said she planned to focus on four key points that will promote growth for her constituents throughout her term, which are promoting physical development, economic empowerment, institutional support, and enhancement of social services.DevelopmentIn her speech before her town’s legislators, Alegado cited traffic congestion and flooding as some of the town’s primary problems.To ease traffic congestion, Alegado aims to open more roads as a way to promote inter-connectivity in the town. She also plans to widen existing roads in her town so that they can accommodate more vehicles and ease traffic congestion.To ease the town’s flooding problem, Alegado said she would implement regular river dredging in some of the town’s primary rivers and campaign for slope and river protection.Economic empowermentTo promote economic development, Alegado plans to establish a strong educational support system by providing more scholarships and educational cash assistance, increasing food production and skills training in food processing and technology, and encouraging job placement.Aside from increasing livelihood assistance, Alegado also plans to transform Cansaga Bay into a tourism showcase as a way to attract tourists to the town and fully implement the Community Based Monitoring System (CBMS), which is an organized technology-based system for collecting, processing, and validating necessary unaggregated data that will be useful for developmental planning.Institutional enhancementAlegado also promised to build and rehabilitate more infrastructures, including building Consolacion’s second Rural Health Unit (RHU) and additional police and fire stations.She also plans to review and integrate barangay development areas, review the workforce of the municipal government, and to introduce a “computerization program” to integrate all departments.Alegado also plans to have more social programs targeting to help more of the vulnerable sector.She aims to provide more livelihood projects through the puroks, improve the town’s drug rehabilitation programs, establish possible housing projects for the homeless, and improve the town’s distribution of indigent assistance.Other plansHer other plans include rehabilitation of Consolacion’s transport system, advancement of solid waste management and water system, street lighting, supporting sports development, and providing more equipment and training to the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.She also plans to construct a double-A slaughterhouse and the relocation of the town’s current jail.
