Utzurrum: Zonta Club of Cebu 2 initiates projects, advocacies

Having recently celebrated 100 years, Zonta International, traditionally an all-women’s club, has a solid history of being a valuable non-governmental organization (NGO). Its stringent advocacies involving the status of women and girls globally, has attracted members who desire to make a positive difference in their lives. Some of these advocacies are saying no to violence against women and girls, calling for a standalone goal on gender equality and supporting Senate issues on child brides and early teen pregnancies, etc.Specially in focus during Women’s Month, Zonta Club of Cebu 2 displayed advocacy banners celebrating International Women’s Day. These portrayed achievements and contributions of women in different spheres, who work toward building a society free of all gender biases, stereotypes, gender parity and discrimination. These banners, with text written in Cebuano, created quite an impact. These were distributed to a number of barangays in Mandaue by the Zontians. The banners featured the winning photographs from its photo competition, “Celebrating Women’s Resilience and Strength.” They showcased strong, intelligent, talented and simply extraordinary women breaking the glass ceiling and rewriting the rules in the family, including agriculture, business, academe, governance, finance and the community.Aside from barangay halls, the club displayed the banners in government buildings, schools, police stations, city hospitals and social welfare offices across the 27 Mandaue City barangays.Zontians, congrats for a job well done!***As if that wasn’t sufficient and exhaustive involvement in community-based affairs, Zonta Cebu 2 conceptualized yet another fund-raising project: The printing and distribution of artistic, all-purpose boxed note cards. The designs were the winning photographs of the recent photo competition sponsored by the club dubbed “Celebrating Women’s Resilience and Strength.”The note cards represent the many unique perspectives and experiences that women contribute as participants of community-building and change-makers. It also applauds the varied and unrecognized roles of women as they inspire and empower the lives of others.Truly, simple women doing simple tasks in an extraordinary way! As of this writing, the cards are selling briskly. Get them soon!
