Vitor, Suarez impressive in Bohol

PROMISING prospect Virgel Vitor and former Olympian Charly Suarez posted impressive victories in HBG Promotions’ “Suntok sa Pangarap VIII” on June 10 at the Manga Elementary School Covered Court in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.The 24-year-old Vitor made quick work of experienced Jecker Buhawe and destroyed him in the opening round of the main event.Vitor landed a counter left hook that dropped Buhawe to the canvas. The referee counted out Buhawe, who was on his knees, at the 2:31 second mark of the first round.Vitor improved to 17-2 with 10 knockouts, while Buhawe dropped to 16-17-1 with 10 knockouts.Suarez, in the meantime, totally outclassed journeyman Junny Salogaol via a lopsided unanimous decision in the co-main event.The 33-year-old Suarez put on a boxing clinic and battered Salogaol the whole fight.Suarez got the nod of all three judges with scores of 60-54, 60-54 and 59-55.Suarez remained unbeaten with a record of 11-0 with seven knockouts, while Salogaol fell to 14-20-5 with 13 knockouts.Suarez is preparing for a huge fight in August in a title defense of his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super featherweight title against a foreign opponent in Parañaque City.In the undercard, Danrick Sumabong (12-2, 9 KOs) scored a second round technical knockout of Royder Lloyd Borbon (6-13-1, 6 KOs), Joseph Sumabong (2-0, 1 KO) beat Zandy Padiran (3-4-1, 1 KO) by unanimous decision, Rhonvex Capuloy (8-2, 5 KOs) forced Vicente Casido (6-5-1, 2 KOs) to quit on his stool at the break after the second round, Chris John Daan (2-0) survived a knockdown and defeated a game Cedie Noblefranca (0-8-1) via unanimous decision and Richard Taculod (1-0, 1 KO) had an impressive pro debut with a first round knockout of Steve Noblefranca (1-5-1).
