Weeklong police operations in CV net over P50M in illegal drugs

POLICE in Central Visayas have seized over P53 million worth of illegal drugs in their weeklong anti-narcotics operations in different areas in the region.

Operatives confiscated nearly eight kilos of illegal substance they called methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, from Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022 to Sunday, Nov. 6.

They launched 114 operations that also resulted in the arrest of 161 drug personalities.

The Cebu City Police Office had the biggest haul of the week after it seized over three kilos of shabu from two Barangay Hipodromo residents, one of whom was a former overseas Filipino worker.

In Lapu-Lapu City, police seized over two kilos of shabu worth P14.8 million from 15 personalities from Oct. 24 to Nov. 6.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba said the illegal drugs seized by his personnel came from Luzon, particularly in Metro Manila.

Cebu, he said, serves as the transshipment point for drug smugglers to sneak in their supplies to other provinces in Central Visayas and Mindanao.

Other operations

The PRO 7 personnel launched 151 operations against illegal gambling that resulted in the arrest of 410 individuals and confiscation of P33,000 in bet money.

In their campaign against illegal firearms, police seized 74 firearms and an explosive, and they arrested 14 individuals. They also visited the houses of 20 gun owners whose licenses have already expired and reminded them to either renew their licenses or surrender their firearms to the nearest police station of their residence.

The PRO 7 also arrested 136 persons who have pending warrants of arrest.

As for the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, it arrested 88 individuals—15 for illegal drugs; 40, illegal gambling; nine, illegal possession of firearms; and 24 persons who had warrants of arrest. (AYB / KAL, MKG)
